Abstract Work: Finding Direction Through Discovery

These pieces start with playing around—no planning, just me repeatedly adding paint onto wood panels, building up layers until something catches my eye and I think, “okay, let’s see where this goes.”

Without the familiar signposts of representational work, I’m finding my way by exploring. I add bits from my collection of collage materials, following whatever feels right in the moment. It’s uncomfortable territory for me, working without a plan and not knowing the destination, but that’s also what makes it interesting.

These pieces capture what happens when I let go of needing to know the outcome.
