Domestic Disturbances

This series came about after my husband shrank my all-time favorite black sweater. It was the perfect fit, exact right length, with this amazing loopy detail on the edges. I held onto the (now doll-sized) sweater for months, unable to let it go.

One day in the studio, I came across some shadow boxes I’d been saving, and it hit me – I didn’t have to let my sweater go. I could turn my favorite clothing into a piece of art, memorialize it instead of mourn it. I realized this laundry disaster was just one example of the many domestic duties that I find less than enjoyable. Washing dishes, cleaning, running errands – necessary as they are, I’d much rather be in the studio! So I started documenting these creative interruptions. Here are my ‘Domestic Disturbances.’

Btw, Gary is banned from laundry duty, which, in hindsight, may have been a strategic move on his part. ;)
